America You Kill Me

Zimbelism (2017)

When his boyfriend was murdered in 1985, and police dismissed it as ‘just another gay killing’, Jeffrey Montgomery took action. He co-founded the Triangle Foundation to fight back against anti-gay violence, supporting countless LGBTQ victims across the state.

Undeterred by threats, sabotage, or being on the hit-list of the Aryan Nation, he publicly confronted politicians, law enforcement, and local/national media – all while radically challenging the movement itself to become more racially and sexually inclusive. By 2003, Triangle had become the 4th largest statewide LGBTQ organization in the country.

In another decade it was gone, with Montgomery controversially retired – his health in decline but his radical voice intact. This is the rise, the fall, and the legacy of a gay rights warrior.
